When thinking about all the different ways you could add value to your property, don’t overlook the exterior. Having eye-catching features and added interest in your yard can really elevate your home, which may pay off down the road. But remember, your landscaping ideas don’t have to be massive to have a big impact.

Keeping Up With the Joneses

To add real value to your home, landscaping improvements need to fit in with the aesthetics of the surrounding neighborhood. For example, if your home is the only house in the hood without a pool, consider installing one before selling. When it comes to landscaping, your home should be comparable to others.

Once upon a time having a security system or even just some video cameras meant that you either lived in a dodgy neighborhood or you had something really awesome to steal. Today, home security devices are common, inexpensive and can be used for all sorts of things, from watching your dog run around like a maniac while you’re at work to checking in to make sure the kids made it safely home from school.

Thanks to the magic of WiFi, you can even keep an eye on vacation homes or empty rentals if you’re willing to invest a little bit extra to keep the internet going or to upgrade to a camera that can connect to your cellular account. Basically, if there’s something you want to see on the regular, a modern smart security camera can handle the job!

There is an interesting cultural shift going on in America. In the 1990s, there was a big push by the Clinton administration to increase the percentage of homeownership in the country.

Lending programs that took into account cultural differences among minority groups, down payment assistance grants and other well-intentioned programs helped lift the homeownership rate from about 65 percent to almost 70 percent. These efforts were followed by the rapid boom of the 2000s, which lead to the Great Recession. Okay. It didn’t end well, but not all because of the attempt to raise homeownership levels.

Now here’s the cultural shift we’re seeing: Many people who are fully qualified to buy are making a conscious decision to be long-term renters. It started

Thanksgiving is just about here. Time to load our plates with turkey, ham, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, string beans, Brussels sprouts, and dinner rolls. As Americans, we eat more on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. It is all about a
